Hi Kim,
I've been following your newsletter for years. I too worked on a charter yacht as a crew in the Caribbean many years ago, returned to my home city, Vancouver and settled. I must also be a wanderer, as I am having a feeling that life is humdrum, and also can't seem to put a plan together. I went to South East Asia for 4 months after quitting a job and I worked on a cruiseship for 2 years. I don't have any kids and we are both in our forties. We are seeking something to do as a couple, make some money legally in a different country (south) during the winter. What that is, we still don't know.
The legalities of ability to make money and work in a different country hold us back. We are not in a financial position to work only half of the year, and are not working in seasonal positions. We don't fall into the commonwealth countries (England, Australia, Canada, Ireland) 18-35 age range of being able to get short term work visas. We may look into house swapping or, are there jobs that don't attach to any country? I know that working on ships is working on international waters, therefore able to pay in cash and usually non-traceable.
These are my thoughts. Other than giving up an income, and going to volunteer somewhere where you willl receive accommodation and food in return for your efforts, I don't know of a way. Do you?
Thanks for your ever wondering, ever wandering spirit!
Heather
What a wonderful site you have! I'm fortunate enough to have had an awesome job myself. I've worked on cruise ships over the last year as a solo musician playing guitar and singing. It's a blast, but something about cruise life had me turned off by the end of my last contract so now I have a challenge for you. I've been searching the internet for ways to get a job as the nightly entertainment at a resort in the Riviera Maya area in Mexico. I'd go anywhere, but for some reasons all signs have pointed there so that's where I'm focused. Most career sites focus on normal customer service jobs, so I wasn't sure if I need to be locating an agent who is in charge of this (like on the cruise ships) or what. I haven't heard back from anyone yet, but I feel like I've just been taking stabs in the dark. Any thoughts on how to go about this would be great! Thank you so much.
I have been in the social service field most of my adult life. I will turn 50 in July and I'd give just about anything to have a job I enjoyed and a lot less stress. None would be good! I love helping others. I see myself until retirement working as a professional companion/personal assistant to someone who wants to stay active, travel, active in their community. I'd like it to be in NC if possible. I live in St. Louis and hate it. I love the mountains of NC. So, have any thoughts, connections, a job for me? I want to enjoy what I do and get paid well for it. I want to be appreciated and needed.

I've been trying for quite some time to find any information pertaining to current openings, requirements for working with or even past employees to discuss how to go about working on board one of Quark's ships, in particular the Antarctic expedition. On their website they list the people and departments where resumes may be sent. However, I've always heard one should never apply randomly and instead be specific about the position you would like to obtain. It's difficult doing so when there are no listings or requirements shown to fulfill them. Do you have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
